Mother’s Day (Upper-Intermediate – B2)

Mother’s Day – Transcript

Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Father’s Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents’ Day.
While some countries have a long history of celebrating mothers, the modern American version of the holiday began in the United States in the early 20th century. It originally began as a religious observance, but over the years it has become increasingly commercial. These days Mother’s Day is usually celebrated with flowers, greeting cards or special meals.
In the United Kingdom, Mother’s Day occurs on the fourth Sunday in Lent. In the United States and many other countries, it is celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
