Gaslighting (Advanced – C2)

Gaslighting – Transcript

Gaslighting” is a form of psychological manipulation in which an individual or group seeks to alter another person’s perception of reality by making them doubt their own memories, perceptions, or sanity. This can be accomplished through a variety of means, such as lying, denying the truth, or distorting facts to cast the victim in a negative light. The goal of gaslighting is to undermine the victim’s confidence and stability, leaving them vulnerable to further manipulation and control. This tactic is often used in abusive relationships, where the abuser seeks to maintain power and control over the victim. The effects of gaslighting can be devastating, leaving the victim feeling confused, isolated, and uncertain about their own experiences and perceptions. It is important for individuals to be aware of the signs of gaslighting and to seek help if they are being subjected to this form of manipulation. This can involve seeking support from friends, family, or mental health professionals, and taking steps to regain a sense of control and self-awareness.
