Chess (Beginner – A2)

Chess – Transcript

Chess is a board game for two players. It is popular all over the world. It is played on a board with 64 small squares. Half of the squares are white, and the other half are black.
Each player starts the game with sixteen pieces. The pieces are different shapes and move in different ways. The most important pieces in chess are the queen and the king. The goal of the game is to take the king of the other player. If a player takes the opponent’s king, the game is over.
During the game, one player uses white pieces and the other uses black pieces. The player using white always moves first. Players take turns, moving their pieces to different squares of the board. There are rules about how pieces move.
Chess is often played in competitions called chess tournaments. It is enjoyed in many countries and is a national hobby in Russia.
