Food (Intermediate – B1)

Food – Transcript

Food is our fuel. The things we eat give us power to work and play. Without food we would soon become too weak to do anything. Our bodies are very good at telling us when we need more food. When we are running low on energy, we begin to feel hungry. Hunger often begins with a small pain or empty feeling in your stomach. As you eat, the feeling goes away, but if you eat too much, you may feel a different kind of pain in your stomach.
Not all foods are equally good at providing energy to your body. Although some foods may make you feel full, they don’t contain the things your body really needs to give it power. For example, foods that are high in sugar may give us a quick boost of energy, but the effect doesn’t last long. Sugary foods are not very healthy, and we may end up feeling more tired than if we’d eaten nothing at all.
Food can be quite different from place to place. Traditional food is usually made from ingredients that are found nearby. These days, however, we can get almost any ingredient or type of food from large supermarkets. Supermarkets are good because they allow us to eat many different kinds of food. However, they also sell a lot of snack foods that might not be so good for our health. These foods are often high in salt, sugar, and fat.
Next time you feel hungry, make sure to choose food that gives your body what it needs to be healthy and strong.
