Earth Day – Transcript
Earth Day is a day for people around the world to think about the Earth’s natural environment and what they can do to protect it. It takes place on April 22. More than 193 countries around the world celebrate Earth Day. On Earth Day, people should turn off all lights that are not necessary. On Earth day we should also do something to help the environment like plant trees or pick up trash.
Earth Day first began in the United States in 1970. It was the idea of a man named Gaylord Nelson. He wanted to teach all Americans about environmental issues. The first Earth Day focused on the United States, but in 1990 it became an international event. The United Nations recognizes and promotes Earth Day. These days there are special Earth Day events around the world, and many governments, schools and businesses participate.
