Copenhagen – Transcript
Copenhagen is the capital city of Denmark. It is also the largest city in Denmark. In 2014, there were 1,246,611 people living in the city. Copenhagen is on the island of Zealand and the smaller island Amager.
Vikings lived in the area long before there was a city. They built a small fishing village near the water. In the 12th Century, Copenhagen was built. It officially became a city in 1254. Just a few years later, it was almost completely destroyed by pirates.
These days Copenhagen is a busy and modern city. It is famous for its universities, banks and museums. The city also has many parks and walking areas along the waterfront. One of Copenhagen’s most famous landmarks is The Little Mermaid statue. The children’s writer Hans Christian Andersen lived in Copenhagen. The Little Mermaid is one of his most famous stories.
