Café Culture (Intermediate – B1)

Café Culture – Transcript

Paris is a city that is famous for its cafés. There are about 5000 cafés in total. For French people, cafés are more than just a place to drink coffee. They are a place to meet friends, eat, enjoy music, and relax. Cafés have existed in Paris for more than 300 years. They have become an important part of the social life of the city. In a Paris café, it is not unusual to sit quietly for a couple of hours, reading or watching people as they walk by. This is different from cafés in other parts of the world, where people usually drink their coffee and leave. Paris cafés usually have a kitchen for making food. There’s also a counter where customers can buy newspapers, cigarettes, and metro tickets. The most popular drink in Paris cafés is a small cup of strong black coffee called “espresso“.
