Unusual Events (Beginner – A2)

Unusual Events – Transcript

I want to tell you about an unusual event that happens in my town. My name is Nicole, and I’m from Gloucestershire in England. This is an old traditional event. People think that it began sometime in the 1700s. It takes place on the last Monday in May, and it is known as the Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling.
Every year, people chase a rolling cheese wheel down a very steep hill. The winner is the first person to reach the bottom of the hill. You have to be very careful. Sometimes people get hurt. It used to be only a very local event, but now people from all over the world come to take part in it. Not long ago, a man from Japan won one of the races. Isn’t that cool?
After the race, people eat cheeses from all over Gloucestershire.
