Sushi (Beginner – A2)

Sushi – Transcript

The word “sushi” comes from the Japanese word “su” meaning vinegar, and “meshi”, meaning rice. Sushi is made with specially prepared rice. The rice is mixed with vinegar, salt, and sugar. Sushi is known for using raw fish, but sometimes other foods such as vegetables or eggs are used. Some sushi is wrapped in seaweed called nori.
Sushi is traditionally eaten by hand, but it is also common to use chopsticks. There are many different kinds of sushi. The most common sushi in Japan is raw fish on top of a small portion of rice. Sometimes other ingredients, such as fish eggs, squid, or sea urchin are used instead of fish.
