Vikings – Transcript
The Vikings were people from Northern Europe who were known as great seamen and warriors. From the 8th to the 11th centuries they traveled to Europe in their long ships. They attacked and then settled in areas that are now part of Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy.
Europeans were scared of the Vikings because of their strong weapons. They often attacked isolated towns, stealing everything valuable and killing the people. When the Vikings came to England, the English kings paid them to leave the country. The Vikings took the money but did not always leave.
The Vikings were master boat builders. They created flat-bottomed boats that could travel up rivers and cross oceans. The Vikings settled in Iceland and Greenland and eventually traveled to North America.
