William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet, and actor. He wrote 39 plays and hundreds of poems in his lifetime. He lived in Stratford-upon-Avon in England. His plays are still performed today.
Before he began writing plays, William Shakespeare was an actor. He was part of an acting company called The Lord Chamberlain’s Men. We don’t know much about Shakespeare’s career as an actor.
William Shakespeare wrote plays in various genres. There are histories, tragedies and comedies. These plays are very famous. They are studied in schools around the world. Shakespeare wrote most of his plays between 1590 and 1613.
Shakespeare added many new words and phrases to the English language. He also made some words more popular. He created over 1,700 English words.
