Salvador Dalí was a Spanish artist known for his technical skill and the bizarre images in his work. Dalí received his formal art education in Madrid.
He was influenced by many different styles of art, but he joined the Surrealist movement in 1929. His best-known work, The Persistence of Memory, was completed in August 1931. It is one of the most famous and valuable Surrealist paintings.
Dalí lived in France during the Spanish Civil War and later moved to the United States. He returned to Spain in 1948 and developed a new artistic style. Dalí’s new art combined elements of religion, mysticism and science. Dalí’s work included painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and film. He also wrote fiction, poetry, essays and autobiography.
Salvador Dalí’s art is still popular today. There are two major museums devoted to his work: one in his home town in Spain and the other in the city of St. Petersburg in the United States.
