Mario is a video game character. He is the main mascot of Nintendo. He has been in more than 200 video games.
Mario first appeared in the arcade game Donkey Kong. In that game, he was a carpenter named “Mr. Video”. Later, his name was changed to “Mario”. Back then, games were hard to make. Characters had to be very simple. That’s why Mario has no mouth or ears. Making hair was difficult, so Mario had a cap on his head.
Mario is one of the most famous video game characters of all time. Over 200 million copies of Mario games have been sold. In the games, Mario often appears with his younger brother, Luigi. Other characters include: Princess Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong.
